The England international played for 68 minutes before being replaced and headed the United equaliser on 55 minutes in front of a crowd of over 3500 at Belle Vue, Wakefield.

United reserve coach Roy Aitken told www.lufc.com: "The team responded positively and Robbie Fowler came through well.

"He took his goal in typical fashion and we can now expect him to get another game next Monday night against Liverpool."

Michael Bridges played for the full 90 minutes and Olivier Dacourt also appeared.
