Mick McGuire, who acts as Milner's representative and is also deputy chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, is to have discussions with David Richmond when United's managing director returns from holiday.

Milner is due a new contract at Leeds and with Newcastle still hovering around it has now become even more essential to tie him up for a lenghty period.

He has already spurned an offer from Tottenham, showing his desire to remain in West Yorkshire.

McGuire is now hoping to secure a long-term deal for his client, and he said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "David Richmond is going away shortly but I'll be speaking to Leeds when he returns from holiday.

"The situation needs to be discussed and by doing that it may also focus other clubs who want to come in for him because there's been a bit of interest. You don't get too many 18-year-olds in England who attract the attention that he has."
