Leeds Trial Italian Gabriele Perico

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that the 32-year-old linked up with the United squad amid their on-going search for a new full-back.

Perico was at Cagliari during Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino’s spell as owner of the Sardinian club, making more than 70 appearances between 2010 and 2014.

Cesena signed him two years ago following their promotion to Serie A but Perico - once an Italy Under-20 international - saw his appearances limited there and he is a free agent after parting company with the club this summer.

Perico was expected to play in last night’s Under-21 friendly between Leeds and Farsley as he tries to convince head coach Garry Monk to hand him a deal. Monk was planning to attend Throstle Nest.

Monk is in the market for cover at full-back and United have already considered moves for Fleetwood Town’s Conor McLaughlin and former Wigan Athletic right-back Reece Wabara.

Monk turned down both of those options, however, and is now running the rule over Perico.
