The 36-year-old initially joined the Whites on a non-contract basis before the season started.

He made his full debut in the 4-0 Carling Cup win against Crystal Palace in midweek, having previously had eight months out due to injury.

He previously played alongside fellow Scot Gary McAllister at Coventry City.

Telfer cancelled his contract with the cash-strapped Bournemouth in December after being sidelined for the season with a foot injury.

He sais on Leeds' website: "I could have stayed down south but when Gary asked me if I wanted to join up for training in pre-season, it was a massive incentive for me.

"Six months ago I would not have expected this but I feel fit and I enjoyed pre-season. I'm looking forward to having another year now."
