Leeds star Brenden Aaronson backed to 'dictate' for USMNT at World Cup

The United States Men's National Team head to the 2022 World Cup with arguably their strongest roster at the tournament to date.

After missing out on Russia 2018, the Stars and Stripes head to Qatar with Champions League and top-flight talents such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, and Gio Reyna.

However, one player garnering more attention than most this season is Brenden Aaronson, who has taken to life in the Premier League with Leeds United like a duck to water.

Whether starting or coming on as an energetic super sub, Aaronson is set to play a key role for Gregg Berhalter at the World Cup and can 'dictate' things for his team, according to Real Salt Lake head coach Pablo Mastroeni.

“He really drives a group forward and is also crafty enough to create and to score goals,” Mastroeni told MLSsoccer.com of the 22-year-old in an interview with multiple MLS head coaches. “I don't think he's a sleeper by any stretch. He's a top player for this team, but if he has a good start to the World Cup, he can be super influential and dictate things.”

In the same interview, Chicago Fire boss Ezra Hendrickson highlighted Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner as one to watch, thanks to his 'shot-stopping ability'.

“Goalkeeping has always been a strong point for the US team when it comes to these tournaments. It's no different this year,” Hendrickson said.

“Matt has shown his shot-stopping ability to be very, very good. That's going to be incredibly useful for this current squad.”

The USMNT begin their Group B campaign against Wales on Monday before fixtures against England (November 25), and Iran (November 29).
