Leeds Deny Talks With MLSE

Maple Leafs Sport and Entertainment - a business estimated to be worth in the region of £1billion, were named as potential buyers of Leeds on the morning of Sunday's League One play-off final at Wembley, but Ken Bates has rejected speculation that discussions have taken place between United and MLSE.

United's chairman said: "There's no truth in the story whatsoever.

"I was phoned for comment on this last Tuesday and said then that it was all rubbish, but the story came out anyway. We've had no discussions."

Senior members of MLSE's staff, including president Richard Peddie, visited England last month on a football fact-finding mission and held talks with a number of professional clubs, but Peddie has also dampened suggestions that the firm have turned their attention to gaining control of Leeds.

"It's pure fiction," said Peddie. "I've never met with the Leeds people and never visited them. I didn't see them play."
