It Was One Of Those Special Nights

There's been few better days to be a Leeds United supporter than last Monday, writes Paul.

Not being of an age to remember the glory days, meaningful away trips to Wigan (87), Oldham (87), Bournemouth (90) and Sheffield United (92) stand out as particularly good highlights.

They were games that meant something and, by winning, the United team achieved something. But Monday at Preston was up there with the very, very best.

It was a night which boasted thrills, nervousness, and drama. It was possible to experience every single emotion before, during and after the 2-0 win at Deepdale and it's only afterwards that the reality of the night begins to sink in.

It was a night to be proud of being a Leeds United supporter and night to be proud of the Leeds United players.

Former play-off skipper Brendan Ormsby was perched at the back of the main stand with his chest puffed out in pride while Elland Road legend Eddie Gray was seen waving with clenched fists after the final whistle.

The performance was simply fantastic, while the support was absolutely magnificent.

Stood on the pitch when Kevin Blackwell re-appeared to deafening cheers from the exiting Leeds fans sent a shiver down the spine and I doubt few will ever forget their night in Lancashire.

Skipper Paul Butler, who spent the entire game shouting and bawling on the edge of the technical area, was even spotted fulfiling his long-time promise of celebrating with a Leeds salute.

It was one of those special nights. Now we can only hope for another memorable day when we all head to Cardiff.
