The lone striker opened the scoring on 57 minutes to put United in charge of their play-off semi-final at Deepdale.

He then set up Frazer Richardson for a second goal just four minutes later to book Leeds' place in a play-off final showdown against either Watford or Crystal Palace on May 21.

"It was fantastic last night," said Hulse in the Yorkshire Evening Post. "There was a bit of relief as well. I've been eating triple decker stress sandwiches all week and I just wanted to get the game started and out of the way.

"I'm glad that we did the job. I've been up twice and gone straight up both times. Doing it this way is not good for the nerves, or my hair, though!"

"It's up there with the most important goals I've scored," added the striker. "It helped get us to Cardiff and we are now 90 minutes away from the Premiership.

"We're not there yet though – there's a lot of hard work to do yet. "
