"I have been looking around at players, and Michael Bridges is one of those," said McCarthy of the ex-Sunderland frontman, currently out of the picture at Bolton.
"We are trying to get someone in and if that is Michael then great because he is a good player and someone we have been interested in for a while.
"But we will have to see what happens in the next couple of days.
"I want to bring someone in and at the same time I want to keep all my strikers at the club so it might mean there is going to be some movement out of the club because I have to keep the budget balanced and the money people happy."
