McDermott, who said he still has plenty of work to do in readiness for his first season in charge, is relishing the prospect of opening and closing the campaign at Elland Road.

Leeds open the season against Brighton and then play Derby on the final day.

"For me I look at the first game and see if we are playing at home, and we are. Then I'll look at the last game to see if we are playing at home and we are, which I'm really pleased about," the former Reading boss told the club's official website.

"I look at the Christmas fixtures and obviously I was looking out for Reading as I managed there.

"Apart from those fixtures that's it really because we have got so much to do before that first game against Brighton, we need to make sure that we're absolutely spot on."

McDermott added: "First and foremost the important thing for me is to get to the Brighton game with the players in great physical shape, we have the players in that we're looking to try and sign, the planning is all done, the process around the training ground is all done.

"Then we look to the next one then we go on from there. You take it as a 'gimme' that the games in the Championship are tough, we know that."
