The Whites are desperately short in midfield and the out of favour Republic of Ireland international would be ideal for Blackwell if a deal can be agreed with the Championship leaders.
Mahon joined Wigan last season after leaving Blackburn but has failed to establish himself as a first team regular at the JJB Stadium.
However, Ipswich Town are also interested in Mahon, who had an impressive loan spell at Portman Road last season.
