Some fans were angry at the sale and planned a protest at the club's training HQ at Thorp Arch.
Lennon is in the process of negotiating terms with Spurs over a £1m move but said: "It's a great move and I'm looking forward to it, but I never asked to leave. I was happy to stay."
Kevin Blackwell said of the transfer: "I resent losing any good players. The situation was we had to offer Aaron the chance to go and that's what we did.
"The other situation was that his contract was about to expire in a year and the contract he was on was huge.
"So once again I've inherited someone else's problems in that respect. It means I've got a big hole to fill but hopefully I'll get someone in to replace Aaron."
