The former England U-21 international suffered knee ligament and hamstring damage in the FA Cup replay against Wigan last Tuesday.
"Matthew is out for two months, we've had that confirmed now with scan results," Kevin Blackwell told the club's official website.
"He did his knee ligaments and hamstring all in one go."
