Shepherd has been linked with a move for the Whites after he received over £37m when he sold his stock in Newcastle to businessman Mike Ashley.
"Football 's a drug, and a powerful drug," said Shepherd. "From January I think something could happen. I'm a northern guy, so obviously I'm more interested in northern clubs."
Shepherd is keen to find a way back in to the game after six months away and claims there are 'half-a-dozen clubs' who have tried to interest him in investing in them or mounting a full take-over.
