The Leeds boss was mainly watching the comeback of Jonathon Douglas and, while the Republic of Ireland international may not be quite ready to return for Saturday's visit by Walsall, he did play the full 90 minutes and a return is not that far away.

Reserve coach Neil Thompson said: "He eased himself back in but in the second half he dominated midfield with Peter Sweeney. It was very encouraging."

McAllister, who was accompanied by his number two Steve Staunton, also took the chance to look at trialist Georges Ba, who played for 81 minutes.

The bustling 29-year-old, Ivory Coast born striker has played most of his football in Israel and in France, where his clubs have included Nice, Montpelier, Le Mans and Troyes.

He now wants to play in England. He has had a trial at Preston and is spending time at Elland Road, hoping that McAllister will sign him.

Leeds' two goals against Wednesday were scored by Anthony Elding but while they dominated most of the play, they could only pick up a point with Enoch Showunmi, the player who rejected a move to Leeds, opening and closing the scoring.
