The Seasiders' team of trialists beat a youthful Leeds side and the first home goal came on 9 minutes when Sam Hird headed past his own keeper under no pressure, and the lead was doubled on 40 minutes when Danny Thornton ran through a static defence to lob Mark Wilberforce.

But the highlight of the game produced the Leeds goal after 51 minutes when a wicked cross from Mario Licka was headed home by Jonathon Howson.

Ian Morris and Tomi Ameobi missed further chances for Leeds whilst at the other end Wilberforce did well to deny Lee Whittington when he intercepted a weak Sean Gregan back pass, his only error of the match.

Former Mansfield midfielder Anton Brown did well for Boro as did centre-back Dario Mazzola, while there was an appearance from former Boro player Gareth Stoker in the second half.

Sean Gregan played the whole game for Leeds after missing the first team trip to Norway because of a cock-up over his passport.

Apart from the weak back header, Gregan dominated the centre of his defence with his knowledge and experience.
