For the second year running Swindon took the game to Leeds for long spells with little reward.

Leeds were anxious to avoid a repeat of last season's meeting at this stage of the competition when Swindon led 2-0 until late in the game and it took a last minute header from former keeper Paul Robinson and a penalty shoot-out for the home side to progress.

And they seemed to have things under control when Gary Kelly floated a perfectly weighted pass over the defence and into Ricketts' path and the former Walsall and Bolton striker, who has been struggling since his move from Middlesbrough, calmly stroked the ball past Robins keeper Rhys Evans.

On a windy night, good football was hard to find but Swindon were neat in their build up with Stefani Miglioranzi and Sammy Igoe showing some nice touches and Jerel Ifil looking a class act at the back.

But with Sam Parkin's usual partner Darius Henderson unable to play after completing his permanent signing too late from Gillingham, they were struggling to make an impact in front of goal.

Their best chance fell to Sean O'Hanlon after a mix-up in the Leeds defence, but he side-footed his shot wide of the far post.

Leeds had made several changes with Friday's game against Sunderland in mind and were struggling to find a rhythm.

New signing Sean Gregan was busy in midfield alongside Matthew Spring, while Julian Joachim showed some nice touches but the nearest they came to a second was when O'Hanlon turned the ball on to the woodwork as he tried to clear Kelly's cross.

Swindon continued to play decent football after the break but without causing any real problems and their finishing was poor and even the usually reliable Parkin dragged a shot wide when clear on goal.

In the dying seconds Evans tried to do a 'Robinson' from a corner but his header went woefully wide, leaving Leeds into the hat for the next round.
