Lewis, who played for his country in midweek, struck after only eight minutes and £1.1m summer signing Hulse marked his first appearance of the season with a cleverly taken goal on the hour.
Jonathon Douglas, signed on a year's loan from Blackburn 24 hours earlier, made his Leeds debut when he left the bench two minutes before Hulse's goal and made an immediate impression in midfield.
Wolves had plenty of possession but made little headway as Leeds worked tirelessly to close them down.
Jermaine Wright was left out in favour of Frazer Richardson while Icelander Gylfi Einarsson deputised admirably in midfield for Eirik Bakke who was injured playing for Norway in midweek.
Wolves were without Paul Ince and Mark Kennedy who suffered injuries in training, so in came Seyi Olofinjana and Colin Cameron.
Leeds couldn't have wished for a better start. Lee Naylor lost out to Richardson who broke into the penalty box from the right and although his low cross by-passed Hulse, it found the on-rushing Lewis whose shot sped into the net from beyond the far post.
Wolves went close to a 24th minute equaliser when transfer-listed striker Kenny Miller's angled drive rattled the bar and Jackie McNamara wasn't far wide with a 25-yard effort soon afterwards, but Paul Butler and Sean Gregan defended stoically for Leeds and keeper Ian Bennett, who produced a magnificent display in place of Neil Sullivan, was alert when Naylor set up a chance for Carl Cort a few yards out.
Miller then played a one-two with Seol Ki-Hyeon but Dan Harding made a great tackle to smother the danger. Cort was also guilty of a bad miss, swinging his boot at thin air after Leeds struggled to clear a free-kick.
Leeds doubled their advantage on the hour. The impressive Einarsson headed Gary Kelly's free-kick towards Hulse who chested the ball down, turned and shot left-footed into the net passed Joleon Lescott and Michael Oakes to the delight of Leeds fans in a crowd of 21,229.
