United’s pre-season campaign came to an end with victory over Spanish outfit UD Las Palmas, thanks to a late winner from Kemar Roofe.

Leeds had an early chance from a free-kick, Pablo Hernandez struck, but his effort deflected over the bar for a corner.

UD Las Palmas had an opportunity from a free-kick, Fidel delivered and Cala fired over a volley inside the Leeds box.

Fidel then played a ball to Araujo who fired a shot on the turn from 20 yards, but he couldn’t find the target.

Leeds’ best chance of the first half came in the 20th minute, Luke Ayling put a dangerous low cross into the Las Palmas box, but Roofe couldn’t convert at full stretch at the back post.

Araujo won Las Palmas a free-kick, 25 yards from goal in the 34th minute and the visitors nearly broke the deadlock, Fidel struck it and his effort hit the crossbar before bouncing over.

Seven minutes later, Araujo won Las Palmas another free-kick in a similar spot and once again it was the same outcome as Fidel once more struck the bar, as the two sides went into the break all square.

Half Time: Leeds United 0-0 UD Las Palmas

Chances were few and far between in the second half, with neither keeper having a save to make until the 80th minute when Hernandez drove up the pitch and into the box, before seeing his deflected shot stopped by Fernandez.

Two minutes later, substitute Mateusz Klich made his way up the pitch and played Lewis Baker into the Las Palmas area and his shot deflected off target.

Leeds continued to press for a winner, Klich found Roofe with a neat pass and he crossed looking for Baker who tried to get a shot away and won a corner.

From the resulting set-piece, Hernandez delivered and Kalvin Phillips flicked on a header into the path of Roofe, who showed fine footwork, before firing home from close range.

A crowd of 11,499 were at Elland Road as the Whites saw out a confidence boosting victory, ahead of next Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship opener with Stoke City.
