A couple of minutes later Kewell's run down the left ended with a deflected cross almost catching out Elimelech at his near post.

However, Omri Afek smacked a 25-yard left-footer against the crossbar almost straight away, after a mistake from Ian Harte.

Nine minutes before the break Harte hit the woodwork himself and his deflected right-foot effort came back out to Smith, who brought a full-length save from Elimelech.

It was almost 2-2 just before the hour, as Robinson had to rush out to clear after a mix-up with Gary Kelly.

On the hour Radebe limped off to be replaced by teenager Matthew Kilgallon and a minute later Smith completed his hat-trick, following up to net after his initial header from Kewell's cross had been parried.

With 20 minutes left Robinson made a superb block from sub Pini Balili to maintain the advantage.

Eleven minutes from time Abuksis was sent off for a second bookable offence and soon after Kewell again crossed from the left for the unmarked Smith to head his fourth of the game and complete a miserable night for Hapoel.
