Palace were ninth on 50 points this time last year but made the play-offs and then got promoted to the Premier League.
Leeds are 10th on 47 points but have played 34 games, at least two more than any of their rivals.
But former Ipswich midfielder Wright, 29, said: "We have 12 games left and we are just four points off a play-off place. A few months ago we thought it wouldn’t happen but since then results have gone our way.
"I feel we have a real chance to kick-on now. We want to get Leeds back in the Premiership as soon as possible."
