The Republic of Ireland player is expected to leave Molineux despite being offered a one-year extension, and sources in the West Midlands suggest United will step in to capture his signature.

Cardiff are also showing an interest but the 30-year-old lives in Cheshire and may favour a transfer to Elland Road.

However, moving to Cardiff would give Kennedy the chance to re-unite with former Wolves boss Dave Jones, the man who brought him to Molineux for £2m from Manchester City in the summer of 2001.

But a move to Leeds may prove more appealing as he could team up again with former Wolves colleague Paul Butler.
