According to sources close to Walton, Liverpool were prepared to offer Walton a four-year deal where he would have provided cover and competition for central defenders Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia.
Leeds however, having lost Eirik Bakke, Matthew Spring and Seth Johnson, decided to keep Walton as cover for both Shaun Derry and Gylfi Einarsson in central midfield.
