The York born defender's contract was due to expire at the end of this season and Kevin Blackwell was keen to secure his services for a longer period.

"I grew up at this club and I feel very strongly about what has happened in the past few years," Kilgallon, 21, told the Stellar Group website. "Everyone here is determined to restore the club to its rightful place."

Kilgallon has played in more than 50 games for the Whites after making his debut against Hapoel Tel Aviv in the UEFA Cup in 2002. He also had a brief loan spell at West Ham in the 2003/4 season.

He has also appeared regularly for England at U-20 level and the U-21 side.
