Venables: We've got to do better

Venables admitted: "Things haven't gone as well as we hoped they would go. It's been very, very tough. The spirit of the players has been good but we've got to do better," he told Sky's Sports: "Not a lot went right in the first half, although in the second half I thought we did a lot better.

"It didn't help with Nicky Barmby getting injured in the warm-up - his studs got caught in the ground and he hurt his Achilles.

"He was looking forward to the game and it was a disruption - but I felt we should have done better than we did. We've got to get results out of games like today."

"We were a bit unfortunate with the first goal but the second was a wonderful effort, the strike was top class," Venables said of Robbie Keane's goal.

"People said normally that happens but he's played very well today - credit where it's due."
