Trust To Mount Letter Appeal

The Leeds United Supporters' Trust (LUST) is mounting a mass letter-writing campaign ahead of Leeds' appeal against the decision which could mean they start life in League One on -15 points.

United's case will be heard at a meeting of the League's 71 other clubs, expected to take place this Thursday.

And LUST is writing to the chairman of every club attending to try to persuade them to reduce or even quash the punishment.

The letters will make the point that the fans should not be penalised for United's adjudged failure to comply with the League's insolvency policy.

Similar letters will also be sent to supporters' clubs nationwide in the hope that they will come out on United's behalf.

LUST chairman Rick Duniec told the YEP: "We recognise that some action needs to be taken against Leeds, but why should it be the fans who suffer?

"Supporters have paid a lot of money up front for season tickets expecting a genuine, fair and honest campaign in League One.

"That could now be taken away from them and, in our book, the situation just isn't right."

The campaign has already won the backing of lifelong Leeds fan and city MP Colin Burgon (Lab, Elmet).

He added: "This sanction is totally unfair. Once again the fans are having to carry the can for the decisions of others."

Burgon also stated that he would be writing to the League to express his displeasure at the severity of the punishment imposed on Leeds.

There have also been calls for supporters to boycott United's games in this season's Carling Cup, the League's premier knockout competition, in protest against the ruling.
