Christiansen, who took over last summer, has paid the price for a horror dip in form which culminated in Saturday’s 4-1 home Championship defeat to Cardiff.
Leeds have failed to win since a 2-1 Boxing Day victory at Burton.
Christiansen, 44, was unknown when Leeds new owner Andrea Radrizzani chose him to replace Garry Monk last summer.
Leeds are now looking for what will be a 10th manager since the sacking of Simon Grayson six years ago.
Grayson himself will join the list of candidates, as will Steve McClaren.
