The list puts Yorkshire in 22nd place – above the Seychelles and Dubai – and praises the county’s ale trail and two popular Leeds pubs.

The Victoria Hotel on Great George Street in the city centre and the Cross Keys at Water Lane are acknowledged for pulling pints on traditional hand pumps.

The county’s historic breweries including Samuel Smith and Timothy Taylor are also mentioned.

Carol Coleman, manager of The Victoria Hotel, said: “We are ecstatic. This is so good for Yorkshire, for Leeds and for real ale.”

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said: “It’s terrific to see the rest of the world realising Yorkshire is the place to come to sample some of the best beers in the world in amazing settings.

“We’ve been doing a great deal of work to raise the profile of some of our great pubs and beers, producing an Ale Trail for some years now.”

He added: “We look forward to welcoming New Yorkers to Yorkshire for a proper pint!”

York is also praised for its Tudor-style pubs and venues including York Tap, Pivni and the House of Trembling Madness.
