There was a time when the club badge meant something. The fabled lufc scripted logo was classy iconography, but the replacement, the smiley badge, was surely the greatest emblem football has ever witnessed, neatly bridging the generation gap from psychedelia to acid house. Certainly better than a tawny owl.
