The Axeman Not Cometh....Yet

Chairman, Professor John McKenzie, spent last night ruing over whether to back or sack Reid following the club's recent run of results.

However, Reid confirmed this morning that it was business as usual, albeit with his credibility as Leeds manager severely dented.

Leeds have lost their last three Premiership matches, conceding 10 goals without reply and gave an unconvincing display against Second Division Swindon Town in the cup, edging through on penalties.

Reid now appears to have been given more time to halt the slide. Given that the next five matches are against Blackburn, Man Utd, Liverpool, Man Utd again in the cup and Arsenal, the axe may be ready for sharpening at the end of the month. Apart from the trip to Anfield the other four are, at least, at Elland Road.

Leeds' share price plummeted to below three pence over the last few days and the club's primary backers had become nervous at the club's dive into the bottom three.

Reid has worked wonders in the transfer market considering he hasn't had any finance to play with, even after the controversial sale of Harry Kewell to Liverpool, recruiting Jody Morris on a free and a further seven on loan deals, Didier Domi, Zoumana Camara, Lamine Sakho, Cyril Chapuis, Salomon Olembe, Roque Junior and Jermaine Pennant.

Curiously, since the arrival of Roque Junior, United's form has plunged from the early promise of results against Newcastle, Southampton and Middlesbrough.

They all need to gel quickly in order to get some respectable results in what could be a make or break month for themselves and Reid.
