Supporters Club Award For Smithy

The striker won the award despite playing out of position most of last season by Terry Venables, wide on the right, and scoring just three Premiership goals and nine in all competitions.

Manager Peter Reid's decision to play him back in attack from the start of this season has already paid off with goals against Newcastle and Spurs, and Smith said: "I am much happier to be back up front because I see it as my best position.

"I was willing to help out by playing wide on the right but I was pleased to be switched into the attack for the last couple of months last season and I've enjoyed playing there again this time."

This is the first time Smith has won the long-established Supporters Club award, but it probably won't be the last, considering his huge popularity with the fans.
