"All things permitting he will play for half-an-hour at Sunderland just to get the feel of things again," Blackwell confirmed in the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"He's got through the training to a level where it's now possible for him to play a game.
"Providing there are no problems, Stoney will step things up again after tomorrow and we'll look to get him 45 minutes next week.
"Steve has worked very, very hard," added Blackwell.
"It's been a long road for him but there is light at the end of the tunnel for him now and we're all delighted."
