Local newspaper reports in the North-East suggest that The Magpies will accept around £500k for the former Leeds international midfielder.
Leeds have been linked with Speed recently but Middlesbrough, Fulham and Sunderland are also interested in the 34-year-old who made 312 appearances for The Whites between 1989 and 1996.
