Smithy To Be A Villain?

Yes, the man who recently stated he would never leave United under any circumstances, is the latest in a long line of high-profile players to be rumoured to be on the way out of Elland Road.

On the eve of the new Premiership season, England striker Smith is reported to be on his way to Villa Park in an £8m deal.

An article in The Sun newspaper claims secret talks have been going on all week between Smith and O'Leary, who left Leeds by mutual consent in June last year.

Smith signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal worth £40k a week only last February.

Leeds have sold nearly £60m worth of talent of the past year, but remain heavily in debt.

And any hint that chairman Professor John McKenzie may be tempted to cash in on the striker may alert Newcastle into making a late bid.

Sir Bobby Robson is a known admirer of the striker and has already landed Jonathan Woodgate from Elland Road.
