The captain has been an inspiration on and off the field for United and it came as no surprise when his former boss at Wolves, Dave Jones, expressed an interest in taking the 32-year-old to his new club Cardiff City.
Butler has started pre-season training after missing the last month of last season following the head injury he sustained against Sheffield United in April at Elland Road.
