Skipper goes under the knife

The knee injury has been plaguing Matteo all season, and boss Terry Venables paid tribute to the skipper for playing through the pain.

"He goes in tomorrow to sort that out, to be fair he has played fantastically all year to play with the injuries he had like he has," Venables said after the 0-0 draw with Villa on Sunday.

"Lucas who is now out and Woodgate have also had to go in when they weren't fully fit, and it's all been beyond the call of duty really.

"Dominic should be right for the Liverpool game in two weeks time, that's what we're hoping."
