Shelbourne Shock United

Another friendly, another defeat. Even Eircom League club Shelbourne managed to beat Leeds this afternoon in the 3rd/4th place play-off in the Dublin Tournament.

Despite playing six friendlies and not winning one, surely the alarm bells must be ringing already at Elland Road?

Gerard Rowe slotted home after seven minutes and Stuart Byrne consolidated the lead when he slipped the ball home from ten yards having been found free by Baker.

The host side maintained that lead up to the break on a hot sunny afternoon in Dublin.

It could have been worse for United, but Jason Byrne saw his effort ruled offside on the hour.

The second half in the main was a very tame affair and now Leeds go into the season without any victories pre-season.

Substitute James Milner went closest for Leeds, who will have to show much more when they kick-off against Newcastle on Sunday.

In the final itself, Aston Villa easily beat St Patrick's 6-0 in a very one sided match.

Leeds: Martyn, Mills, Domi, Morris, Matteo, Camara, Barmby (Milner 45), McPhail (Woods 45), Sakho (Lennon 45), McMaster, Wilcox (Harte 45).

Shelbourne: Williams, Heary (Gannon 45), Crawley (McCarthy 45), Rogers, Kinnear, Hoolahan (Brough 68), Morgan (Coughlan 61), S Byrne, J Byrne, Rowe (D Baker 53), R Baker (Bennion 79).
