Sheikh To Invest In Leeds?

Last updated : 20 August 2003 By Kevin Markey

Sheikh Abdul bin Mubarak Al-Khalifa (easy for you to say!), a well-known figure in United Arab Emirates football, first expressed an interest in Leeds two years ago.

Leeds United PLC responded to press reports by confirming Sheikh Al-Khalifa discussed Leeds United's financial position during his visit to Elland Road on Sunday, but that no proposals were made.

It also said that he has attended Elland Road on a regular basis over the past 25 years and was invited to the directors' box on Sunday as a guest of the club.

Professor John McKenzie is busy trying to reduce the Yorkshire side's debts, and Al-Khalifa's interest in the Premiership club could provide a timely boost.
