Johnson was caught doing 135mph in his Porsche 911 last week and of being twice over the legal drink-drive limit, and before Dewsbury magistrates today, pleaded guilty to charges of speeding and drink driving.

As well as undertaking the community service, Johnson was disqualified from driving for two years and fined £1500. A charge of racing on a public highway was dropped.

The 24-year-old has also been disciplined by Reid, understood to have been a fine of two weeks' wages, with the matter now closed.

"The kid has made a mistake - and he is a smashing kid - and he has paid the penalty," said Reid.

"I think the world of him as a lad, even though I've not known him for that long, but as a footballer, he has let himself down and he has let the club down.

"He has been dealt with by me, he has accepted it and now let's get on with it."
