Newcastle scouts have watched Bridges play for Leeds reserves and boss Sir Bobby Robson is poised to make a bid to sign the 25-year-old Geordie, who cost £5m from neighbours Sunderland four years ago.

Bridges has almost fully recovered from the injury problems that has kept him out of action for the last couple of seasons and, according to the Sunday Mirror, he would welcome a return to his native North-East to join former team-mates Jonathan Woodgate and Lee Bowyer.
