Along with Southampton striker Kenwyne Jones, Ricketts will be at Stoke until the end of the season.

Stoke's Director of Football John Rudge told his club's official website: "We are delighted to get both signed up for the rest of the season. Kenwyne in particular has done quite well since he has been here while we feel there is still plenty more to come from Michael."

Ricketts said: "I'm delighted to have signed until the end of the season because I think this club is really going places. It was very disappointing to pick up an injury just after I joined the club because I was buzzing after coming here.

"My fitness is getting there gradually and I'm playing twenty minutes here and there and my ankle is getting stronger and stronger. Hopefully I'll play against Wolves, hopefully score and hopefully we'll get the three points.

"After the Wolves game we've got a two-week break and hopefully that'll help me get fully over my injury."
