Reid/Blackwell Era Begins

The Whites pre-season games will hopefully provide the platform to work towards eradicating the mistakes of last season.

As one of the new arrivals, coach Kevin Blackwell has looked at making sure the squad are doing the simple things right, and top of his concern is the goals that were scored against United in the last period of so many games last season.

Statistics prove that 17 goals were conceded in the final 10 minutes of games last season, costing the team a crucial 15 points. Those extra points would have comfortably given Leeds European football this season.

Evening training sessions have been introduced meaning players going through their paces twice a day. It’s no secret that the squad have been handed their toughest pre-season workout for a number of years.

One thing all at Elland Road are keen to avoid this pre-season is injuries, another major contributing factor towards last season's disappointments.

Bristol City, managed by former Barnsley & Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Wilson, will be a good test for United at this stage of the season. The Robins were hoping to sign promising young striker Lee Miller from Falkirk in time for him to play in the game. A crowd of around 7,000 is expected at Ashton Gate.

Peter Reid has taken something of an experimental squad down with him, including promising young midfielder Paul Keegan and youngsters Scott Carson, Frazer Richardson and Matthew Kilgallon. Reid is expected to give everyone a chance to impress.
