Reid To Get Fuller?

Last updated : 22 July 2003 By Kevin Markey

According to reports a deal in the region of £1.5m could be struck providing the 23-year-old Jamaican international can prove his fitness. Fuller ruptured his cruciate ligament in November and underwent an operation to rebuild his knee. Leeds have tracked Fuller's progress as he returned to action in Preston's pre-season draw against Hibernian. The Jamaican wore a bandage during the friendly but Preston boss Craig Brown assured it was not the knee that had been rebuilt and was simply a precaution.

How things have changed! Our first signing of the summer is a freebie from Chelsea (a freebie from Chelsea? That’s something you won’t hear often this summer!), and our second signing could be a loan deal. Not so long ago United were splashing out on multi-million pound deals for the likes of Dacourt, Ferdinand, Keane and Fowler. We all know what happened after that though, we’re still paying the price for that over indulgence. Will that £80m debt ever change?

However, if a player in the Nationwide is hungry enough, they will succeed in the Premiership. Signing established, well-known internationals does not always work, as the players are usually millionaires already and do not have the same passion. This could unsettle any team harmony. Chelsea, are you listening?
