Reid has taken over the helm from departing manager Terry Venables who left the club by mutual consent on Friday morning after just nine months in charge.

"I got a call early this morning. The Leeds chairman asked me to do a job," Reid told an Elland Road press conference:

"It's a great honour and a great challenge for me to take over. I snapped his hand off. We didn't even talk about money.

"I'm just looking forward to the challenge of being the manager for eight games and doing the best I can.

"My name was mentioned and it was a pleasant surprise. But I'm just delighted to be back in with such a prestigious club - a massive club.

"I've done a bit of TV and radio work and certainly enjoyed it and was just desperate to get back in.

"I want to get among the players, there are some very good players here, and try and get some results.

"I love the game. Even though you have your bad times it's still a fantastic game.

"But the difficult times are history as far as I'm concerned. I just want to enjoy the eight games and get as many good results as I can."
