Reid: No Sob Stories Please

Reid said after the defeat against Hull last night: "It's been a bit frustrating, but I'd like to think there will be two more arrivals.

"We do need an injection. Jody Morris and Zoumana Camara missed out last night which we didn't really need, but I am hoping for a couple more new faces, because when we start I don't want any sob stories against Newcastle."

Talking about Nigel Martyn’s proposed switch to Chelsea, Reid said: "Me and Nigel will have a chat. There has been communication between the clubs and we're still talking. Last night, though, I thought he looked sharp and agile."

About the game itself he commented: "It was a good workout, but a disappointing result, I wasn't as unhappy as I was after the Burnley game, but there's still loads of room for improvement.

"I'm glad it wasn't Newcastle we were playing.

"I think our fitness is quite good, but we're giving the ball away too cheaply in a lot of areas. We've got to sharpen up our passing because that isn't good enough.

"With all respect, if you get beat by the likes of Hull City you're not happy.Sometimes you have to give them credit, Hull did well, but there's room for a vast improvement in my side."

About David Batty’s performance he said: "Last night was the best I've seen him, I was going to bring him off at half-time, but he wanted to stay on. He was neat and tidy, and broke things up in middle of the park."

Meanwhile, David Walker, United's director of media relations, left the club yesterday to set up a footballing consultancy. He will maintain close links with United but will be free to form an association with other clubs.
