Reid: Family Will Cheer Us On

Leeds are desperate for a good performance and a morale-boosting victory at Goodison Park.

Losses against the two cities, Leicester and Birmingham, followed by an unconvincing display over Division Two side Swindon Town, have got the critics out again, just six games into the Premiership season.

Huyton-born Reid’s 159 league matches for Everton left him with a special affection for the club where he enjoyed a glorious seven-year career which saw the club win the FA Cup, two League championships and the European Cup Winners' Cup.

"I was a Liverpudlian but I played for Everton," said Reid in the Yorkshire Post.

"I ended up playing for Everton and my allegiance sort of changed over time, as did that of my three brothers funnily enough. They will be cheering me on tomorrow though, blood is thicker than water and they know we need a result.

"I have some fantastic memories of my time at Everton. We won two League championships and we were the only Everton side to win a European trophy. Had we not had that European ban (Heysel) then I think we would have had even more success.

"It still rankles with me, without a doubt, that we never got the chance to play in the European Cup. We had the players at the time to be one of the best sides in Europe and it was sad that we never had that chance to test ourselves.

"We have got players in the squad who can get the right results and it is about time we put a run together in the League. There is no better place to start than Goodison Park.

"I will not stand by the claim that the new lads in the squad need time to bed down. If they are good players then they should be able to go out there and perform. They need to do their jobs to the best of their ability every time they play. Good players handle such situations.

"I don't think the lads have got the points on the board they have deserved. Maybe we have been short-changed but that is not something worth moaning about. It is down to us to get the results."

Michael Bridges is set for the bench again following his return from injury while Dominic Matteo, Lamine Sakho, Jermaine Pennant, Jody Morris, Seth Johnson and Mark Viduka are likely to be recalled to the starting eleven.
