Reid: England Will Get Result

Reid told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "There's been a few negatives with Rio, Sol Campbell and not knowing whether or not Michael Owen will be fit, but you have to turn them into positives.

"I think England will do that. Over the years we've had a good reputation for pulling together and showing great spirit when things look like going against us. I would expect us to come away with the right result.

"I'd play Wayne Rooney off a front man. You know what you're going to get with him and I don't think he will be at all fazed by the prospect.

"I watched the game at the Stadium of Light (against Turkey) and he turned in an excellent performance, even though he's still only a young man.

"It is a big decision facing Sven, but with Rooney playing off someone and five across the middle you have a solid formation. It's the way a lot of teams at that level are going now because they can press forward and attack from deep. For me, that's the way to go.

"It is a completely different Turkey. When we used to play them it was looked upon as an easy game, but they've improved dramatically since then and are strong now, particularly at home.

"Players like Tugay and the boys in Italy are good players and they have plenty of quality. Their club results also show an improvement as well when you have the likes of Besiktas beating Chelsea. That shows there is something there.

"We don't want to end up in the play-offs. There's a lot of good sides left in and anything can happen over two games. We don't want to rely on that.

"The most important thing is that we get the result in Turkey and qualify that way. I think the players will pull together and I think we will."
