O'Leary: Leeds Will Finish Above Villa

O’Leary returns to Elland Road on Boxing Day for the first time and he insists the Leeds fans will welcome him back.

He said in the Birmingham Evening Mail: "The fans were brilliant to me there. But I’ve moved on, I’m here now and this is a big club that I want to put right.

"It might kill me in a way, trying to put it right, but that’s what I want to do here. I had my day there, and they were great days.

"The last game of the season we’d qualified for Europe, and it was special because us and Chelsea went into that game. We beat them and so finished ahead of them in the League.

"38,000 fans made us walk around the pitch, so I think Peter Ridsdale said: ‘I couldn’t sack you then’, he had to let it go for a couple of weeks.

"The fans never ran me out, but I’ve moved on now. But I did have a great time.

"They’re a good team. They’ve got Erik Bakke to come back and they’re a quality team that finished above us last season and should finish above us again this season.

"I’m firmly of the opinion that Leeds won’t go down. Eddie Gray has too good a squad for that, particularly with those two (Viduka and Smith) up front."
