No Batty U-Turn

The 35-year-old former England international has not played for The Whites since January and has not been seen since being informed two months ago that he was no longer a part of Gray's plans.

The radio phone-ins were full of calls on Friday night backing Batty after the miserable defeat at Highbury.

"David won't be coming back. He's gone and that's it. That won't happen. I made a decision on David and that's that. It's quite simple," Gray said in the Yorkshire Post. "The midfield is not a major concern for me. We've got Lucas Radebe and Dominic Matteo and I think we'll be fine.

"Eirik is looking very doubtful, although we've not yet ruled him out for the rest of the season for definite. I don't know when Stephen McPhail will be back. I would say he will be another week or two at least. Paul Keegan is a promising young lad but has not played a first-team game yet and I don't think it's a good time to throw him in there.

Batty's United career has ended sadly, but he is unlikely to be the last big-name player who leaves Elland Road this year.
