Mowatt Makes Team Of The Week

The Doncaster-born midfielder, who celebrated his 20th birthday last month, has shown a real goalscoring knack for the Whites in the last month, hitting four in his past six appearances.

Three of Mowatt’s goals have secured three points in separate matches for Leeds, the latest coming in Saturday’s Roses win against Wigan Athletic at DW Stadium, with his impressive strike six minutes after the restart being the cue to ecstatic scenes of celebration among the near 5,000 visiting contingent.

Two weeks earlier on February 21, Mowatt’s early goal gave United the points in a 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough in front of the Sky cameras.

That followed his stunning free-kick to take the points in the crucial win over relegation-haunted Millwall at Elland Road on February 14 as he claimed a belated birthday present - the day after his 20th birthday.

Mowatt’s latest accolade is the fourth time a United player has been named in the Football League’s team of the week so far in 2015.

Marco Silvestri was named in the best weekly XI for his superlative display in the win at the Riverside Stadium against Boro, with Mowatt selected in the line-up following his decisive strike against Millwall the previous weekend.

A strong display on his debut for Leeds in the 2-1 derby win over Huddersfield Town on January 31 was also enough to see Sol Bamba take his place in the team of the week following that weekend’s action.
